Series
The Geometric Forms Series is a group of sculptures which use multiple elements to describe geometric forms which evolve and devolve as you move around the piece.

Why the Square, the Circle and the Triangle?
To me, they are beautiful mathematical absolutes in and of themselves, pure forms.
In addition, each form has represented specific fundamental ideas and spiritual concepts going back millennia. There are numerous examples in many schools of art depicting one or more of these elemental forms.
For example: Japanese zenga ink paintings (Sengai’s “Marusankakushikaku” for one example) and even the abstract expressionists (Robert Motherwell’s “Three Forms” 1988)

In this piece, each pair of elements fit within the area of a 2” square when aligned.

> 2 Copper Rectangles form a Square with an area of 4 square inches. Copper has the highest density and by far the most weight (mass)
which fits the historical association with Stability / Order / Body / Earth

> 2 Brass semi-circles form a complete Circle with an area of Pi or 3.14 inches (πr2) Brass has a lower density than copper.
Its color easily correlates to the historical associations with the Sun
and the Circle has been seen as the embodiment of the Circle of Life / Eternity / Unity and Wholeness / Enlightenment

> 2 Aluminum acute right triangles forming an Equilateral Triangle with an area of 2 square inches and by far the least mass. Aluminum has the least mass of the metals used in this piece and references the historical associations with Transcendence / Transformation / Soul / Spirit.

4 Moveable Elements
An aluminum piece composed of four uprights which fit into a slotted base.
In the “home” configuration,
and looking squarely at the piece,
the four uprights describe 4 rectangles
and 1 central square.
From this ‘home’ configuration,
the four uprights can be arranged in
12 different configurations through rotation (4x3x2x1÷2) achieving
greater or lesser degrees of chaos.
